Ramsay High School is a celebration destination.

Maxpreps website visited the Class 6A football champion Rams on Thursday as part of it's Tour of Champions. Ramsay is one of 50 schools on Maxpreps tour, which "honor the most outstanding teams in the nation for their state championship performance and elite national level ranking".

Ramsay finished No. 116 nationally in the MaxPreps football poll.

"This celebration kind of wraps it up," Ramsay coach Rueben Nelson said. "We'll have one more event in April, a ring ceremony. But this wraps it up and says: congratulations from the state and from the city."

Ramsay (13-2) set a program record for wins in a season. The Rams defeated Opelika, 21-16 to win Alabama's Class 6A state championship last month.

The title completes an amazing turnaround for the football program. Ramsay didn't have a team from 1976-2011. The Rams returned in 2012, reached the high school playoffs the last three years, and won the state championship in their first season playing at the Class 6A level.

"It's overwhelming sometimes," Nelson said. "If you look around, Ramsay is a place that is based off excellence. To be a part of it and to be able to go down in history as winning a state championship in 2016 as a place like Ramsay--it's just a blessing."
