John Franklin III will have a new home for his final season of college football.

The Ft. Lauderdale native will transfer back to his home state and join FAU. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn announced Franklin's decision in a statement through the school.

“John Franklin came to me expressing his desire for the chance to play more and get closer to home," Malzahn said. "He has made the decision to play elsewhere this season as a graduate transfer. John has been an outstanding young man during his time here and leaves Auburn with a degree. We wish John nothing but the best and thank him for his time at Auburn."

Franklin transferred to Auburn before the 2016 season as a quarterback and then moved to wide receiver in Spring Practice. He earned his undergraduate degree earlier this month, which will make him eligible to play at FAU immediately.
