Nashville will host the 2019 NFL Draft

(FOX 17 News)

It's official -- Nashville is "on the clock."

Nashville will host the 2019 NFL Draft. The announcement was made on Wednesday from Atlanta during the owner's meetings.

“Following an exciting and successful event in Dallas, we’re thrilled to take the NFL Draft to Nashville. The city has a passionate fan base and offers iconic locations that will enable us to expand the Draft in unique ways,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. “We look forward to working with the Tennessee Titans, the City of Nashville, and the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp to deliver a memorable celebration of football to our fans and incoming players.”

Officials say 400,000 people came out in Dallas last year for the draft. Nashville leaders say they think Music City can beat that record.

Ahead of the announcement in Atlanta, the Nashville Convention and Visitor's Bureau tweeted the confirmation.

NFL's Peter O'Reilly spoke about the move to Nashville.

“Nashville is going to be unique. There not another place like it. Market size was not a determining factor here.”

A 2 p.m. news conference is also being held in downtown Nashville on Wednesday to discuss the NFL's announcement. FOX 17 News will carry that live online and on Facebook.

It was also announced that the Saints will host Super Bowl 2024 in Louisiana.
