UAB hungry for real football, expectations

For the first time since 2014, UAB has a football schedule to look forward to.

"The Return" took another step on Monday with the start of fall practice, working towards the season opener against Alabama A&M on Sept. 2.

Blazers coach Bill Clark and the players are hungry and determined to prove the "naysayers" wrong. The logical perception is that they will struggle this year after being out of the game the past two seasons.

"I mean we're playing to win," UAB coach Bill Clark said. "I think the we're here to compete and we're here to win are two totally different thought processes. We're excited to be here. We're proud of this. I tell 'em all the time we're playing for more than ourselves, but our expectation level is doing all that it takes to win."
