Demeco Ryans ready for NFL "coaching" challenge

Ryans retired after a 10-year NFL playing career to take a position as an assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers (

Bessemer's own Demeco Ryans is entering a new phase of his football career--that of coach.

Ryans played ten years in the NFL for the Houston Texan and the Philadelphia Eagles.

This year, the former Jess Lanier High School and Crimson Tide standout is a defensive quality control coach for the San Francisco 49ers. Two things Ryan knows a lot about: defense and quality.

"Finishing up playing such a short time ago, I can relate to a lot of the players in the room," Ryans said. "I know a lot of the players, played against most of them so it's easy for me to relate to the guys. It's easier for us to have a good relationship. It's a really good working relationship, being able to be a young coach in this game"
