Nick Saban vocal against player transfer inside SEC

Maurice Smith had 50 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries for Georgia after transferring from Alabama (

The SEC Meetings are underway in Florida and it's clear that Nick Saban is still a little bitter that former Alabama defensive back Maurice Smith was allowed to transfer to Georgia before last season.

Smith asked for his release to he could transfer to Georgia last summer and Saban rejected the request. The SEC Conference intervened and ruled the Smith was free to go to UGA and since he had already complete his under-graduate degree, he was eligible to play immediately.

Smith never stepped on the field against his old team, but he did wind up returning an interception for a touchdown in Georgia's win over Auburn.

"I've never been in favor of free agency in our league," Saban said. "Why shoudl a guy leave your team and go play for somebody else and you have to play against them? I don't think that's fair."
