Birmingham Civil Rights Institute celebrates Juneteenth

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is holding special events for Juneteenth,{}the celebration of the end of slavery.{}Today local children gave a performance about the AG Gaston Motel. In doing research for the show, the children learned some history but also some lessons about the world we live in today.{} "One of the things they watched was the film that the institute gave them that dealt with the children's march and from there and what they were seeing and events that's happening currently in the news where there's a lot of police abuse of power, one incident that they recollected they took that and they said you know what things haven't really changed when it comes to police and the public," said Lashanna Tripp, a camp director with the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.
