Consultant for Cooper Green transformation?

Jefferson County Manager Tony Petelos wants commissioners{}to hire a consultant to handle the transition of Cooper Green Mercy Hospital to a full time primary care facility.

"We need someone on board who can guide us through this transformation," Petelos said.

The consultant also would handle negotiations of inpatient transfer agreements with other hospitals.

The person being considered lives in Atlanta, is an alum of UAB, and has 25 years experience in health care.{} The cost to the county would be $208,000.

"We need someone who has had the experience in health care.{} He's had over 25 years in health care business, making transformations at different hospitals," Petelos added.

The commissioners requested that the consultant meet with each of them{}prior to their next meeting.{}
