DNC's first day on Birmingham site visit

It's been a full day of sightseeing for a team with the Democratic National Committee.{}A 12-member group is touring a variety of Birmingham hotels, attractions and venues Monday as part of a two-day site visit.Birmingham is one of five cities vying to host the Democratic National Convention in 2016. The committee is in the Magic City to see if it has the hotel and venue space to pull off the large-scale event.ABC 33/40 went alongside the team for part of its day. Members saw the Birmingham Museum of Art, the BJCC, Regions Field and Railroad Park.{}

Members also broke into groups and checked out hotel space including the Embassy Suites in Homewood, the Hyatt Regency in Hoover and the Renaissance Ross Bridge Hotel and Resort, according to a schedule.The Westin, the Sheraton and Tutwiler Hotel have long-been considered main spots on the tour as well as Birmingham's premier places for visitors to stay.The team will end its first day at Iron City, where a free "DNC Pitch Party" kicks off at 7 p.m.Stay with ABC 33/40 for more on this developing story.
