West Alabama names Desmond Lindsey interim head coach

Desmond Lindsey will temporarily replace Will Hall as head football coach at West Alabama.

UWA named Lindsey it's interim head coach on Friday. He's been a Tigers assistant for the past six seasons.

Hall resigned on Thursday to become the next football coach at West Georgia.

"I am beyond ecstatic to have this opportunity," Lindsey said. "The people at UWA are friends and colleagues that will last a lifetime for me, so I am motivated to step in and do a great job for them and for UWA."

UWA athletics director Stan Williamson said there will be a national search to find a permanent replacement.

"With the success we have had over the last few years we expect a strong pool of candidates to be interested in the position," Williamson said.

West Alabama has won two Gulf South titles and reached the Division II playoffs twice in the last three seasons.
