Consumer alert: smartphone scam hitting online buyers

Online buyer loses hundreds of dollars

Buyers are shelling out hundreds of dollars online to get smartphones. But in some cases they're finding those phones are worthless. They're being used as part of an insurance scam. Our sister station, WPEC, spoke with a Florida man about his ordeal.

The Better Business Bureau reminds you to buy only from authorized dealers or someone you know. You can report scams to the BBB's scamtracker or to Facebook Marketplace.
