Ticks are a concern year round in Alabama, but especially from April through September.

Health experts offer advice to protect your family and pets from tickborne diseases:

*Use insect repellent that contains 20% or more DEET. Do a body check when you come back indoors. Dry clothes on high heat to kill any ticks you may have missed. Check your pets frequently and talk with your veterinarian about preventative measures.

*In our state the Alabama Dept. of Public Health says ticks can cause these diseases: anaplasmosis, babesiosis, ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, rickettsiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, southern tick-associated rash illness, and tularemia.
