Our I-Team investigation into risky male enhancement pills gets a major retailer to take action. Walmart, the biggest retailer in the country, removed a product from its website as a result of our investigation.

  • Erectile Dysfunction affects 30 million men in this country. The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers about certain male enhancement pills.
  • They can be laced with the active ingredients in prescription drugs like Viagra and Cialis—and you wouldn’t even know it.
  • Doctors say some men could wind up dead.

“For those of you who may have a problem with pause down here,” said Kyle Alston in a video he posted to YouTube. In that video, he discussed the ED problem he had a few years ago. We spoke with him via Skype.

“Well, I was embarrassed about it, yeah,” Alston said.

Alston bought the Rhino 7 3000 male enhancement pill at a local convenience store, and later online. It was faster than getting a doctor’s appointment. The FDA found undeclared, unapproved ED drugs in that product. The company recalled it. Fortunately, Alston didn’t have any problems.

The FDA has warned consumers about nearly 200 male enhancement products over the past seven years

Since 2012, the FDA has warned consumers about nearly 200 male enhancement products. They were laced with the active ingredients found in prescription drugs like Viagra (Sildenafil) or Cialis (Tadalafil).

Those ingredients aren’t listed on the label and no doctor’s prescription is required. That’s the problem.

The risks can be fatal

Dr. William Curry is an internist and professor of medicine at UAB.

“If you’re taking one of these enhancement drugs, it interacts with another drug you’re taking for say a heart condition, it could then drop your blood pressure enough to cause a heart attack, stroke or even be fatal,” Dr. Curry said.

We found a risky male enhancement product on Walmart’s website

During our investigation, we found several risky male enhancement pills available online.

Here’s one example: We saw Rhino 7 Platinum 5000 male enhancement pills on Walmart’s website, despite FDA consumer warnings issued back in July 2017.

An FDA lab analysis confirmed Rhino 7 Platinum 5000 contained the active ingredient in Viagra. The FDA says that undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates in meds taken by people with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease. The FDA says it may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.

We alerted Walmart.

The company said, “Thank you for bringing this to our attention.” Walmart said the product was listed by a third-party seller on Walmart.com. It’s been removed and Walmart is “reviewing the seller and their other products.”

Some of the underlying causes of ED

According to the National Institutes of Health, these health issues can lead to ED.: Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart, arterial and kidney disease, smoking, excessive alcohol, being overweight, stress and certain medicines.

Kyle Alston lost 25 pounds. He’s exercising, eating healthier--and he doesn’t have ED anymore.

“Feel great. I’m more confident, you know,” Alston said.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking dietary supplements

Dr. Curry said it’s important to have a frank discussion with your doctor about ED because of those underlying causes.

Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any kind of dietary supplement—even vitamins.

That’s because supplements can interact with drugs you take or cause side effects.
