JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. — A 17-year-old is facing a charge of attempted murder following a Center Point shooting Tuesday afternoon.
Jefferson County deputies found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound at Magnolia Trace Apartments on 20th Ave NE around 3:30 p.m. The shooting victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and later released.
An investigation determined the shooting victim confronted teens who were arguing in the parking lot when one of the teens pulled a gun, shot the victim and ran away.
Authorities say an undercover sheriff's unit was already in the area and spotted the suspect and a second teen exit the woods and get into a car. The suspect and other teen were then detained and questioned before deputies identified one of the teens as the shooter.
The juvenile suspect is charged, as an adult, with attempted murder and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $35,000.
