Suspect charged after 4 shot, 2 dead overnight in East Birmingham

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after two people died at a party in East Birmingham on Friday night.

Around 11:00 PM, officers responded to a report of multiple people shot at the 1100 block of Carnation Drive. They found the first victim, 19-year-old Wanya' Conner, inside the residence and unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced this victim dead on the scene.

A second shooting victim was found inside the residence and transported to UAB Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two additional people were struck in the shooting and were taken to St. Vincent's East Hospital via a private vehicle. One of those victims, 20-year-old Javian Stone, died at the hospital and the other was treated and released.

Investigators have one suspect, 29-year-old Desmond Ray Jones, in custody. Jones is charged with capital murder and attempted murder for his alleged role in the shooting.

Jones will be taken to the Jefferson County Jail upon his release from the hospital.
