Alabama Forestry Commission battling 20 active wildfires, windy conditions
The Alabama Forestry Commission says there are currently 20 active wildfires in the state including several in the central portion of the state.
A forestry commission spokeswoman said windy conditions are making things extremely difficult for crews working to contain fires in the state. Unable to attack the wildfires head-on, crews are having to take a flanking approach to the fires before setting up containment lines.
Fire officials said a fallen power line sparked a "significant" wildfire on Bluff Creek Club Road off Alliance Road and Highway 61 in northwest Jefferson County near southern Walker County.
Around 25 acres have burned near Deerfoot Parkway in Trussville after a wildfire broke out early Monday morning.
A wildfire in Hale County broke out shortly after noon and has jumped both sides of Highway 69.
