Police renew plea for information in deadly Birmingham shooting one year later

The Birmingham Police Department issued a renewed plea for the public's help with information on a deadly shooting one year after the incident.

50-year-old David Westbrook Jr. was found shot inside his car near 135 54th Street North shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022.

Police said Westbrook had just walked his dog at a nearby soccer field and returned to his vehicle, when an unknown suspect approached him on foot.

The person fired shots at Westbrook while he was attempting to leave. The person then fled on foot.
