Bessemer man charged with attempted murder in Oct. 5 home invasion

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Alabama -- A Bessemer man has been charged with attempted murder and burglary in connection with a shooting earlier this month.

John Howard Sherman, 28, is charged with attempted murder and first-degree burglary for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend's guest during a home invasion in the 5100 block of Williams Drive on Oct. 5.The 28-year-old victim, who returned fire during the incident, injuring Sherman, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and released two days later. Sherman, who suffered more serious injuries, was hospitalized for several days before being released on Oct. 13, when he was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

Sherman's bond has been set at $120,000.
