BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Two Birmingham police officers were injured overnight when carjacking suspects rammed into the officers' patrol cars.
The incident began just after midnight when police say someone was carjacked in the Smithfield community. About two hours later officers spotted the suspects. Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle then sideswiped one patrol car before intentionally hitting another one on 5th St N.
One officer has been released from the hospital while the other remains in stable condition this morning.
One suspect was taken into custody and another was transported to a local hospital.
Police continue to investigate.
