The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred in the 900 Block of Center Street North.

BPD North Precinct officers were dispatched to a person shot call at approximately 2:35 p.m.

When officers arrived they discovered a grey SUV in the 10th block of 9th street west, where they discovered 65-year-old Curtis Jerome Pruitt suffering from a gunshot wound inside the SUV.

First responders with Birmingham Fire and Rescue attempted to provide life saving aid on Pruitt, but he died from his injuries at UAB.

BPD's preliminary investigation believes that the suspect approached Pruitt while he was sitting in the SUV, before shooting him and leaving the area.

BPD Public Information Officer Truman Fitzgerald expressed BPD's continued effort to put an end to violence in the community, as the scene was the site of a quadruple homicide that occurred in February 2024
