Birmingham Police investigating fatal shooting on Bessemer Road ( | Jennifer Gonsoulin)

UPDATE (10:00 a.m) - In a release, Birmingham Police report that around 5:25 p.m., officers from the West Precinct responded to the 1800 block of Bessemer Road on an individual shot.

Sgt. Shelton said when the officers arrived on scene, they saw a black male lying on the ground with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers and medics checked the victim, but he was deceased.

Police have identified the victim as 47 year-old Myron Pratt.

When officers when inside the home, they also discovered narcotics and evidence of its use.

Shelton said the preliminary investigation revealed some men were inside the home when some type of argument and a physical altercation started between the victim and the suspect.

During that fight, the suspect shot the victim multiple times.

Investigators have yet to determine a motive.

“We believe the victim knew his killer, which is what we see in a majority of our homicides. Right now, a family is trying to deal with the loss of their loved one and we will work to bring them answers and hopefully some closure.” said Shelton.
