BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) - Birmingham police confirm an officer deployed a Taser on a 13-year-old suspected of having a gun several blocks from Green Acres Middle School.
Police say they received a 911 call concerning two juveniles possibly with a gun Wednesday morning. When officers found the two boys matching the description, police instructed them to put their hands in the air.
The teen then turned to run and reached for his pocket, according to Birmingham Police Sgt. Williams. At that point, an officer deployed a Taser on the boy and found a .38 revolver in his pocket. The juvenile was taken to Children's Hospital, where police say he is alert and speaking. He is not from the Birmingham area nor a student at Green Acres Middle School.
Police say the school was never in any danger.
