'He's a monster:' Calera kindergarten teacher charged with child porn possession

Daniel Donaldson (Shelby County Jail)

A Calera kindergarten teacher has been placed on administrative leave following his arrest for child porn possession, and parents in the school system are livid.

Daniel "Danny" Donaldson, 26, of Wilton, has been a teacher at Calera Elementary School since 2015, where he worked until 2017 as a paraprofessional. Donaldson was in his second year of teaching kindergarten at the time of his arrest. Donald has been charged with 40 counts of child porn possession.

ABC 33/40 spoke to three parents whose children were in Donaldson's class.

They say when you learn your child’s teacher is facing 40 counts of possession of child porn charges, your jaw hits the floor.

One mom, whose identity we will not reveal, says Donaldson was her son's personal teaching aide for two years and on multiple occasions, walked him into the restroom.

Even though her son is no longer at the school, she says seeing this story on Facebook is still a massive punch to the gut.

The woman told ABC 33/40, "He's definitely a monster. I wanted to throw up. It's very disturbing that he was in the bathroom with my child at all, especially without another adult present."

A family whose five-year-old is in Donaldson's kindergarten class this year says they don't want him back at the school.

Corey Duplechain says, "I was ticked off. It's sick. There is something wrong with him."

His wife Emma Duplechain had even more to say. Emma told ABC 33/40, "It's unacceptable. Our children need to be protected. There needs to be something better our there for them than this. We shouldn't have to live this way. I shouldn't have fear of having to send my child to school."

Shelby County Sheriff's Office is conducting a full investigation into the matter. According to district officials, Donaldson has no prior arrests, and he passed a criminal background check in 2014.

“These charges are very serious in that they indicate alarming behavior by this teacher,” said Superintendent Randy Fuller.

Donaldson has been booked into the Shelby County Jail on a $600,000 bond.
