Calhoun County deputies apprehend suspects after search

Sheriff Matthew Wade says that all suspects have been captured.

Calhoun County deputies are actively searching for three suspects in the area of Camp Lee.

The sheriff's office says multiple vehicles were stolen and burglarized Wednesday morning in the Golden Springs and Choccolocco area. At the Samco on Choccolocco Road a group of suspects took a clerk's cell phone. The clerk chased after the suspects in his vehicle, but stopped when the suspects opened fire.

Deputies were able to locate the group shortly thereafter and a pursuit began. Authorities say the suspects, in a stolen vehicle out of Georgia, crashed on Pinecroft Road in Anniston. Deputies were able to place one of the suspects in custody at the scene of the crash, but five others ran from the scene.

Oxford and Anniston Police later caught two of the suspects after setting up a perimeter.

Multiple agencies are now actively searching a wooded area near Camp Lee going towards the Eastern By-Pass for the remaining suspects.

Citizens are asked to use caution and be on look for the remaining suspects. Authorities say one of the suspects is wearing a blue hoodie, another has a head injury from the crash and the third is carrying a backpack.

The sheriff's office says Camp Lee is aware of the situation and all campers are safe.
