Code Orange air quality alert issued for Friday
JEFFERSON, SHELBY COUNTIES, Ala. —
Jefferson and Shelby counties will be under a Code Orange air quality alert on Friday, Alabama Partners for Clean Air confirm.
During a Code Orange alert, air pollution levels are expected to reach between 101 and 150 on the Air Quality Index (AQI), which can be dangerous for certain sensitive groups.
Children, active adults, older adults, people with heart disease, and those with any time of lung ailment, such as asthma, should stay indoors on Friday. Regardless of your health, staying inside on a Code Orange day is recommended.
Here are Alabama Partners for Clean Air's recommendations:
- Carpool or take the bus
- Combine errands into one trip, and postpone unnecessary travel.
- Limit idling and avoid drive-thrus
- Don't burn leaves or trash
- Don't fill your gas tank until after 6 p.m.
