It's not something you see often...if ever.

WAAY reports Lawrence County authorities confiscated Nosey the Elephant on the side of Highway 157 near Moulton.

The elephant's owner said he was bringing his circus to Gadsden when he stopped to have his brakes fixed.

During the maintenance service, the owner took the elephant out of its cage and put it in a pen.

Animal control officers then confiscated the animal after callers relayed their concerns about the elephant's health and living conditions.

The elephant's owner lost custody in a 2 p.m. hearing at the Lawrence County Courthouse.

The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is reportedly coming to pick up the elephant.
