Death investigation underway in Shelby County
STERRETT, Ala. —
UPDATE (10:35 a.m) In a release from Shelby County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to the 300 block of Shelby County Highway 437 to investigate a report of a person who had been shot at a residence.
Upon arrival, authorities say deputies located an unresponsive adult male lying on the ground outside of the home and quickly discovered that he had been shot.
Medical rescue personnel attempted to revive the victim but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 30 year-old Samuel Julius Nave, who lived at the residence in Sterrett.
Deputies and investigators interviewed two other adults who were at the home, another male and a female who lived there with Nave, and detained the male for further questioning.
Investigators believe the shooting was the result of an on-going domestic dispute between Nave and the female resident.
At some point Nave threatened the other male subject with a weapon, which led to the shooting.
After interviewing all of the witnesses, and the subject who shot Mr. Nave, and reviewing all of the evidence, the subject was released pending further investigation including an autopsy and a thorough review by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.
Criminal charges may still be pursued but the subject who shot Nave has not been charged at this time.
