Sheriff: 1 dead, 3 injured after gunfire erupts during drinking party in Bessemer
A 37-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in a shooting in Bessemer late Saturday afternoon. Three others, ages 28, 37 and 45, were also injured in the shooting. Their injuries are non-life threatening, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.
The shooting suspects are still at large.
One of the 37 year old victims later died at the hospital. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting in Bessemer that injured four people.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a report of shots fired in a vacant lot in the 200 block of Elm Street SW around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Upon arriving, they found a man critically injured and three others suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Deputies said the victims were drinking together when two men pulled guns and began shooting.
Three of the victims were transported to the nearby UAB Medical West hospital. The man with critical injuries was taken to UAB Hospital in downtown Birmingham.
Deputies are still searching for the suspects. No arrests have been made.
