Local fallen officers remembered on Peace Officers Memorial Day

This week families and communities across the nation are taking time to honor fallen officers and their service.

Every day the women and men of law enforcement put their lives on the line for our safety, and sometimes, they lose it.

Justin Sollohub, an Anniston officer, was shot and killed point blank in 2011, who was honored in a Peace Officers Memorial Day family ceremony on Tuesday.

“When he lost his life he was doing exactly what he wanted to do, he was passionate about law enforcement he was passionate about serving his community and the people in his community,” said his mother Jeniffer Morris.

Hundreds like him, have fallen since then, 129 officers were killed nationwide in 2017 alone.

Their names are now stored on a slab of stone. But each name is more than just a marking on a wall, they’re carved into the minds of loved ones as a reminder.

“It needs to stop, it needs to stop,” said Morris.
