February shooting is now a homicide investigation


On February 26, 2017, officers from the West Precinct of the Birmingham Police Department were called to the 1300 block of 18th Street Southwest, where 23-year-old Torre Jackson was found to be suffering from gunshot wounds to the arm and head.

Jackson was taken to UAB hospital where he was immediately taken into surgery. He was later place in a rehabilitation facility.

Detectives have learned that Jackson had been with his aunt to pick up a vehicle that the aunt and her boyfriend shared. As they were leaving, the aunt's boyfriend's brother fired several shots into the vehicle, striking Jackson. The suspect later turned himself in.

On December 3, 2017, detectives were notified by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office that Jackson did from his injuries.
