Fire at recycling plant in Birmingham under investigation

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — Materials at a recycling plant on Vanderbuilt Road in Birmingham went up in smoke around 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, according to Birmingham Fire-Rescue.

The thick black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around. By 11:00 a.m. firefighters had extinguished the blaze.

A spokesman for the department said that there were no injuries and it's not clear yet how the fire began.
