Fire destroys one story apartment building in Birmingham

Birmingham, Ala — Birmingham Fire & Rescue responded to an apartment fire on the 600 block of Florida Avenue in West Birmingham, around 10:20 p.m., Friday evening.

When fire crews arrived, the one-story apartment building was engulfed in smoke and flames.

According to officials, one person was inside at the time of the fire and was able to escape unharmed.

Firefighters had the fire under control and extinguished in 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
