On Friday evening, a Northport firefighter and his crew embarked on a 66-mile 'Walk of Hope' to raise awareness for childhood cancer.

Carrying balloons colored gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month balloons, Manuel Jimenez and his crew set out from Sylacauga, aiming to reach Birmingham's Children's Hospital within 24 hours.

The group never took more than a 15 minute rest, walking on throughout the night.

The group reached Children's Hospital at 6 p.m., right on time.

According to the Walk of Hope of Talladega County's Facebook page, funds raised will benefit three families affected by childhood cancer, as well as Children's of Alabama. The families will receive half of the proceeds, and Children's of Alabama will receive the other half.

If you would like to contribute to the proceeds, you may do so HERE.
