Florida man accused of destroying jail property in Shelby County

    A Florida man with a long criminal history is now being charged with destroying state property while locked up in Shelby County.

    James Arthur Friend is accused of destroying an item or items at the jail in Columbiana on October 9th after his arrest for receiving stolen property.

    Friend is from Ponchatoula, Florida and has pending criminal charges in three states, including Alabama.

    A Shelby County judge set Friend’s bond at $90,000.

    Court records show he has arrests and/or convictions in nine different states.
