Former Alabama quarterback Jay Barker has been arrested in Nashville and is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office website. According to the public records, Barker was booked into the jail at 4:52 a.m. Saturday morning and was on a 12-hour hold for domestic violence.

An affidavit lists Barker as the defendant in the aggravated assault case. The affidavit states the victim and the defendant are married but separated and currently living separately. The report states there was probable cause to believe Barker did unlawfully attempt to strike the victim with a vehicle.

The victim said she was attending a party at a neighbor's house and when the party was coming to an end, she had a witness to the incident drive her across the street. According to the affidavit, as the vehicle was crossing the threshold of her driveway, the victim saw Barker reversing in his vehicle at a high rate of speed attempting to hit them but missed before driving away.

After police arrived on scene, Barker returned and the police made contact with him. An arrest warrant was issued for Barker at 4:33 a.m.

UPDATE: Barker was released at 7:29 p.m. on Saturday night. An Instagram account named The Jay Barker Show posted a statement Sunday evening, thanking his fans for their support and asking for privacy in the situation.

"We all confront challenges in life and my family and I are facing one now," the statement read. "Unfortunately, headlines and quick-to-publish news stories do not adequately capture the full context and complex fabric of our lives. I love my family dearly, and at this difficult time, I respectfully ask for privacy for the sake of my family and especially for our kids."
