Survey: Gadsden 'least healthy city' in Alabama


    One East Alabama city finds itself receiving some unwanted recognition.

    According to a survey by 24/7 Wall Street, Gadsden the least healthy city in the Alabama. It's based on the 2018 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps.

    The site looks at a variety of factors including adult smoking rate, obesity rate, and premature death rate.

    It reports 34 percent of adults in the Gadsden metro area do not exercise.

    "Adjust that diet style a little bit, get your diet going, you can make a lot of improvements in a hurry," Morris Pruett, owner of The Athletic Club at the Pump House said, "and really add some quality of life for now and add some years to your life later."

    The national average of premature death rate is 336 in every 100,000. Gadsden's rate is 469 deaths in every 100,000.
