Honda Manufacturing of Alabama celebrated its newest vehicle on the production line - the 2019 Honda Passport SUV.

The vehicle will only be produced at the Alabama facility in Lincoln, Alabama. That move helps secure jobs.

Many agree the decision to make the Honda Passport in Alabama shows Honda's confidence in the plant.

The Economic Development Partnership of Alabama points out some of the larger automotive suppliers in the country have a growing presence in Alabama. The workforce in the state's auto manufacturing industry is close to 30,000.

The Honda Passport is the fourth product Honda Manufacturing of Alabama will solely produce.

"Honda is very flexible in our production, to be able to be where we can move different products around to different plants," Jason Dean / Honda Passport Large Project Leader said, "to be more flexible for the market demand, so I think that's why HMA was chosen, for us to produce most of the light truck market here In Alabama."

There are 4,500 workers employed at HMA. They can produce 340,000 vehicles each year.

Alabama ranked third in the nation last year when it comes to export dollars for motor vehicles.
