Hueytown man arrested in connection to killing of man in SUV in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the murder of Curtis Jerome Pruitt. Pruitt was shot and killed on Sunday, July 20, 2025, on 9th Avenue North.

Detectives have identified the suspect as Jerome Reese Jr., a 56-year-old man from Hueytown, Alabama. On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Birmingham Police Homicide detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Following their review, a warrant for capital murder was issued for Reese.

The Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team located and apprehended Reese without incident in the 200 block of 25th Court Northwest. Reese has been transported to Jefferson County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
