Jefferson County woman files lawsuit against Facebook over Cambridge Analytica scandal
A Jefferson County woman takes on Facebook in Federal Court.
The lawsuit makes the first of its kind filed in Alabama.
Jackie Williams filed the lawsuit and she's seeking to make it a class action lawsuit.
Williams has been a Facebook user since 2010.
She says her information and that of millions of other Facebook users was unlawfully shared with Cambridge Analytica and that information was then used in an effort to manipulate the 2016 elections.
Williams is claiming a violation of the Stored Communications Act, Violation of Alabama's Deceptive Trade Practices Act, Violations of the Alabama Right to Publicity Act, Negligence, Wantonness and Civil Conspiracy.
In addition to class action status, Williams is asking for punitive damages and an order to keep Facebook from any further unlawful use of personal information.
Williams' attorney tells ABC 33/40 the ball is now in Facebook's court and he's waiting for the social media giant to file their response.
