Kiwanis club members assembling bikes for Christmas

Several East Alabama Kiwanis clubs are working to make this Christmas a special one for some deserving children.

Kiwanis club members from Anniston, Oxford, Gadsden, and Pell City assembled 385 bicycles. The bikes were donated from Martin's Family Clothing.

The Alabama Department of Human Resources will determine which families will get the bikes.

"They'll get with the school systems, the counselors, and they've got their own internal list," Robert Smith, organizer of the Bicycle for Kids Project said, "a child will show up a certain age and they will have a bicycle set aside for them."

This is the second year of the program. This year, each bicycle comes with its own helmet.
