Monday morning a local church rallied around students at Huffman High School.

The church, New Birth Birmingham, arrived at the school to support students in their first full week back since one of their classmates was shot and killed.

17-year-old Courtlin Arrington was shot and killed last Wednesday in what Birmingham Police had described as an accidental shooting. Arrington was a senior and planned to study to become a nurse.

Criminal charges were filed Friday morning against a 17-year-old Huffman High School student in connection with the shooting.

The student will be charged as an adult. It is still possible he could apply for youthful offender status and be tried as a juvenile. For this reason, ABC 33/40 News has decided not to report his name.
