Assault victim suffers chemical burns, suspect in custody
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. —
A 21-year-old is charged with assault following an early morning altercation in Tuscaloosa that left a man with chemical burns.
Authorities say the victim was leaving a home on the 400 block of 26th St. E when he realized he didn't have his cell phone. The victim told police when he tried to retrieve the phone an argument began with the resident, 21-year-old Hunter Ryan Washburne.
Tuscaloosa authorities say Washburne threw some type of liquid on the victim that caused a chemical burn on his face and body. The victim was taken to DCH before being airlifted to UAB Hospital.
Investigators added that the victim may lose one of his eyes as a result of the burns.
Washburne is charged with first degree assault and is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $30,000 bond.
Authorities are unsure of what kind of chemical was used.
