Man found shot multiple times overnight dies from injuries

Birmingham Police Department detectives are conducting a homicide investigation after an unidentified man died from sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Birmingham Sgt. Bryan Shelton said the incident occurred in the 3000 block of 44th Ave. North.

In a release, police report that at approximately 3:15 a.m., officers from the North Precinct responded to 3000 44th Avenue North on a call involving a person being shot at this location. When officers arrived, they found the victim sitting inside a white pick-up truck suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics responded and transported the victim to UAB Hospital where he later died.

Sgt. Shelton said the preliminary investigation has revealed little information.

"The identity of the victim is unknown at this time and all the information we have currently is he was a black male that appeared to be in his 20’s-30’s. " said Shelton.

Police did receive information of shots being heard, but no other information was available.

Sgt. Shelton added, “First and foremost we must identify the victim. A family has no idea a loved one is deceased. Some questions to answer include why the victim was at the location at that time and who may have been with him.”
