A 17-year-old is dead after a possible shootout in North Titusville. The victim has been identified as Caleb Cornandus Whitt of Birmingham.

Whitt was a senior at P.D. Jackson Olin High School.

Police said the 911 dispatch center received shot spotter alerts around 12:15 p.m. Shortly after, police said they received calls of a person shot in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue SW at the University Apartments Complex.

Officers responded and found Whitt unresponsive in the parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

Police said they received multiple shot spotter alerts within a mile of where the body was found. After the preliminary investigation, police believe two groups were involved in a shootout at that location.

Shortly after, officers found a vehicle believed to be involved in shootout. Police performed a traffic stop on the car and detained one person for questioning.
