Overturned cattle truck shuts down interstate, leaving multiple cows dead

Overturned 18-wheeler blocking I-20 West at I-59 South (

Traffic is now flowing smoothly again in a troublesome curve on the Interstate 20-59 exit 130B, an area known as “Dead Man’s Curve.”

According to Birmingham Fire, a cattle truck overturned on I-20 West merging into I-59 South near the Birmingham airport.

Between 120-140 cattle were in the truck when it overturned. Officials say some of the cows inside are deceased, while other waited inside the trailer for hours to be rescued.

Cowboys from Jasper arrived around 4:30 p.m. to assist Birmingham Fire in safely removing the cows.

The driver of the truck was transported to UAB Hospital, suffering from nonlife-threatening injuries.
