PARISH, Ala. (WBMA) — While heat was still pouring out of the ashes of New Beginnings Church of God in Walker County, church members examined what was left.
It's an act they say was pure evil.
“I believe we’re living in the end times and people better wake up and start looking up to Jesus," said Pastor Bobby Shedd.
He says crooks broke in through a window in the back of the Parish church Wednesday morning, leaving a hole just small enough to squeeze through - then they started raiding the church.
"Then they set the church on fire," said Shedd.
The church was saved, when a passerby noticed the flames and called firefighters.
"They got it put out real quick but there's still some damage in there," said Shedd.
Pastor Shedd says they've taken inventory, so far they're only missing two TV's.
A drop in the bucket compared to the damage Shedd says the criminals caused.
In the ashes of his church there was a message.
"It just says we're living in the last days and people are waxing worse and worse and getting meaner and meaner," said Shedd.
