Pell City kidnapping investigation leads to Pinson

The Pell City Police Department was called to the 600 block of Kings Circle around 1:00 A.M. Thursday on reports of a kidnapping. A 76-year-old female told investigators that someone she knew came to her door and asked if the victim, a 35-year-old man and relative of the 76-year-old woman, was home. The suspect and two other men armed with weapons entered the home and took the victim.

A short time later, officers were called to the 1500 block of 6th Avenue where residents reported loud arguing and shots fired. Witnesses told investigators the suspects put the victim back in the vehicle and left the area.

Witness statements make officers believe this was not a random act, but a dispute over property.

As the Pell City Police Department made plans for an extensive daylight search, they were notified by the victim that he was in Pinson and shot. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation of that scene.

Officers took one suspect in custody around 1:30 A.M. at 19th Street and 10th Avenue. The suspect has not been formally charged at this time, and is being held in the St. Clair County Jail.

Authorities believe the remaining suspects are in the Birmingham or Eastern Jefferson County area, and possibly driving a dark colored SUV and/or Mustang.

This is a developing story - stay with ABC 33/40 for updates as new information is made available.
