One killed, six injured in two late night shootings in Birmingham

One person was killed and six others were injured in two separate shootings in Birmingham late Thursday night.

The Birmingham Police Department said the first shooting happened on 18th Street SW just before 11:00 p.m. Two people have non-life-threatening injuries from that shooting.

The second shooting happened on 8th Street West just after 11:00 p.m. Police said they found one man dead in an alley with multiple gunshots wounds.

That man was later identified as 37-year-old Dariuse Dewayne Benson.

Four other men were injured in the shooting. Police said one of them has life-threatening injuries and the other three have non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the men injured in the shooting on 8th Street West may have been targeted.

No one is in custody in connection to either of the shootings.
