Sheriff's Office: Store employee charged after lying about robbery
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. —
A 19-year-old Jefferson County woman is facing charges after authorities say she made up a story about being robbed of her employer's bank deposit.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the suspect told deputies she was robbed of her employer's bank deposit in a parking lot on the 6600 block of Hwy 75. The woman said she volunteered to drop off the deposit from Dollar General and as she walked to her car she was approached by a man with a knife and robbed.
The next day a store manager contacted authorities to say the suspect admitted to making up the story and taking the money herself. The suspect returned the money to the store and was later taken into custody.
She now faces charges of 2nd degree theft of property and making a false report to law enforcement. She's being held at the Jefferson County Jail on $2,800 bond.
