Teen dead after shooting in Ensley; three people detained

Three persons of interest were detained after trying to run from police and crashing the car they were in.

UPDATE (10:03 p.m.):

Sergeant Bryan Shelton with the Birmingham Police confirmed to ABC 33/40 that three people of interest have been detained following a foot chase and a car crash.

After the persons of interest fled the scene of the crash, police located them with the help of canine officers.


According to Birmingham Police, a 15-year-old boy has died as a result of a shooting that occurred on 18th Street and Ensley Avenue late Wednesday afternoon on September 6th.

Police say the teen was shot in the chest and then transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Police are investigating this case as a homicide.
